June 20th, 2026 – Oh FFS…Really? REALLY?!

A pretty rough last 24 hours.

I got bit by an effing dog yesterday. A dog that even knows me and he came at me like a freight train; I had no time to even think how to respond. Got me good on the belly. At least he jumped before he got me or I would be typing this in a higher-pitch voice.

I got up this morning, took off a blood-soaked bandage and decided to go to the ER urgent care today to have them look at it. As usual, it was reported to the police but I am in a different county so I need to check with my local sheriff’s office to see if they have received it.

They gave me a tetanus shot and antibiotics to keep me from having complications. They offered me rabies vaccines but I turned it down for now – not really wanting to go through that. The dog supposedly has had its shots according to the owner.

After my appointment I was off to pick up my prescription and some wound care supplies. I took a back road to get there and saw another one of these fields of yellow flowers:

I have seen fields of these plants all over Montana and did not know what they were. I was finally able to get close enough to get a picture of a plant for identification. After seeing numerous fields of these flowers I discovered they are part of a large plant family called brassica. These are quite possibly rapeseed fields. A hybrid variation of these is where canola oil comes from. It could possibly be mustard (same plant family) but Inthink it’s rapeseed.

So I was on the way back, still pissed & fuming about the dog bite, and then a goddamn deer jumped out in front of my truck. 🛻 tried my best to swerve but could not avoid it since he jumped out of the weeds about 10 feet from me at highway speed. My brand new truck is now pretty brokeded.

I do not know if it is even repairable or not but I’m not very optimistic from the things I see. I’m not a body shop person, but the hood is crooked and the passenger door has the fender shoved into it. Even the bed looks tweaked so the frame may be bent. Only 8,000 miles on it.

I’ll definitely get it to a body shop next week to see if it is totaled or not. So unreal that it happened. Needless to say the deer did not make it home.

Needless to say the last 24 hours has been a real kluge. It has been pretty difficult to stay as cool as I can given the circumstances, but I gotta not stress out and keep from having another heart attack.

That’s all the excitement for today. It is plenty.

Shawn
