The last few days Addy & I took a couple of day trips.
Yesterday I took her to Kootenai Falls – the same place I went last week. I wont post many additional pictures from there since I posted some last week but I will add a few different ones from our trip.
We saw this moose on the way (top two pictures). Addy had never seen a moose so that was pretty cool (I have seen them before).
On the way back we were wondering if it was still there. Lo & behold, it left the marsh and decided to cross the highway. I had turned around to get a picture and took the bottom one. Those things are huge.

I did think to get the full effect I decided to post this video for your entertainment and enjoyment.
We went to the swinging bridge and crossed the River to explore the other side. I had not been on this bridge before and it really swings!

Today’s journey took us to Thompson Falls. The drive there took us on US 93 south to MT 28 to MT 200. It is a spectacular drive with beautiful scenery and one of the most beautiful drives I’ve made.

There’s some historical markers along the way:

We got into the outskirts of Thompson Falls and there’s a marker and some more historical information:

There is an old highway that transects the island where the falls and dams are located. There is an old iron/steel bridge that allowed cars to access the island but it is now just a pedestrian bridge except for emergency services. We crossed the bridge and ate our lunch at the river’s edge. It was a nice place to eat and watch the geese and ducks.
The falls were free-running until electricity became a thing and the hydroelectric dams were put in. We walked to the east dam first where most of the water was flowing.

We then walked some trails along the River cliffs to the high bridge, which was part of that same road where the first bridge was.

There was a lot of interesting history on the interpretive signs.

We ended up walking below one of the two dams and did some bouldering. There was very little water being released from it. It was a really interesting place to explore with the geology around us.

We did stop at the market in Thompson Falls and groceries were crazy expensive – I saw a $3 box of crackers for $6.29. However, in the little town of Paradise I got gas for $4.09 – cheapest gas I have seen in a while.
Two great days of beautiful hiking and it was a lot of fun. And everything was free!
Thanks for tagging along with us. See you soon.
Shawn
