I decided to go ahead & buy a 1 TB MacBook Air and its showed up today. My last MacBook experience was not a good one so I was hesitant to buy another, but the reviews were good and I looked at them in the stores. I get 2% back at Costco and 3% back on my credit card. Nice extra discount on top of the sale price.
My Mac Mini is about 1 year away from no more software updates so I decided to get a new computer while the memory prices are still affordable. My setup with the portable monitor was pretty good, but the memory prices really made me think about this seriously. This should last a while so it will be replacing both my iPad and my Mac Mini and I will have one less device to deal with along with the accessories, keyboard, mouse & trackpad I can get rid of. Tomorrow I will take back the portable monitor and get my money back.
The monitor has a fantastic picture on it and is MUCH better than the portable one I just got. Nice feeling keyboard, really long charging cable with a new-style charger. I still have my laptop case so I am glad I can still use it. It has enough storage to keep everything on it so I can stop paying for cloud storage. It is not much but it adds up and at some point I would need to upgrade to even more storage on the cloud. I will get a backup drive for it and it will give me backups of pictures, movies, videos & music. as well as all my files.
Tomorrow while I am out I hope to get to a bodyshop to get an estimate or find out if it is a loss. Unfortunately I did not have car rental insurance so I will have to figure something out with that. I am pretty indifferent about it since whatever happens is what will happen.
It is still a worse than normal time to be dealing with the truck. I was really looking forward to getting out in the camper in the next few weeks. Hopefully it will be all figured out by the time Meghan gets back from another fire that she leaves for tomorrow. If I can still tow with it then I can go someplace but I have got to figure out how to get it fixed soon regardless and it is the priority.
It was a mostly good visit with the cardiologist. Gotta wear a heart monitor for a week or so at some point so they can check some things. Got good news on doing some hiking at altitude – just gotta acclimate. Granted, I may not be going above 10,000 feet much but I can hike in higher elevations if I do acclimate, which can be a few days plus drinking lots of water. She said if I get up into altitude and feel bad I need to go down to lower elevations. Hot springs are okay in short durations, A few of my “recreational activities” in moderation as well (yeah…right!). I told her when I go to Europe I stop taking a blood sugar pill I take twice a day because I cannot drink with it. And when I am going to Europe, it is wine with meals, damn incredible coffee in a tiny cup with a fresh croissant, going to a pub, having a pint, or a small glass of beer like some countries, or a local spirit just to try. Like last time, I would do it for a bit then guilted myself back into taking my meds after a week. I have things well under control with this medicine and in a week or two won’t get too out of hand.
Well, that is about it for this post. See ya next time.
Shawn
