It was another short trip today. It was 92° at one point; here we go again.

There really has not been much to see since I drove south of Minneapolis. Miles of farmland and flatness.

Hahaha

At one fuel stop on the way there just happened to be a Maid-Rite next door so I finally got to try one. They have been in business since 1926 so that says something.

I got a traditional Maid-Rite – a smaller, loose-meat sandwich with seasoning. I wanted to try one and not stop my heart so a small one was fine. It was okay, but not as good as I had anticipated. I really did not care for the seasoning. I don’t like skinny fries and that’s what they had. I finally got to try it and glad I did. I’d eat the burger again though.

Speaking of fuel, I saw gas today for $2.78/gallon. That’s $1.00 cheaper than back in WA. Unbelievable how big the price differences are across the country.

I continued on and ended up at Watkins Mill State Park in Missouri. Missouri has some of the nicest state parks anywhere and you won’t be disappointed visiting or staying in one. This one is open year-round, the nice thing about being in warmer climates.

  1. I’m 0-2 with Maid Rites. Had my first one in Iowa about 40 years ago and one in Denver, when they opened one west of the cable company. Seasoning just didn’t cut it for me, almost tasteless.

Been enjoying the nightly writings, keep up the Rick Steves travelogues.

PS, the young one is researching colleges on the western states. Likes a couple in Washington.
