February 22nd, 2026 – For Reals

You know it is getting serious when I add more than one thing to a calendar that needs to be done. Today I added eleven individual things to my calendar that I need to do in the next two weeks to get gone; that is on top of two doctor appointments sprinkled in for giggles. That list is everything I need to do from switching the utilities over to cleaning, taking things to storage and there’s plenty more.

I will probably get back into the basement tomorrow and see what little things I can do to make progress, then Tuesday it warms up nicely for a few days so I can get some things moved up into the garage. When it is cold outside so is the garage (but not as cold) and I cannot do that. The schedule leaves me five days of extra time scattered throughout those two weeks to do things that may pop up. I wont take it for granted though. I will do what I can when I can to get as far ahead in knocking everything off my list as possible.

Earlier I went out to the trailer and opened up the road atlas on the table and started looking at potential routes in greater detail. One idea is an extra side-trip but that one I am not sure about and it is just an idea to kill a large amount of time. I will just need to go slower and wait out the weather best I can.

Another thing is with it being early in the season, there may be issues finding open campgrounds unless I go a little further south. I can go probably several days boon-docking but at some point I need to dump tanks and get more fresh water. I will just need to plan ahead. Love’s Travel Centers has RV spots in some locations now so that is always handy and will be open year-round I imagine. Kansas has State Fishing Lakes that are free to camp in. Some city parks & county fairgrounds may be open too and not all private or public campgrounds are closed outside of summer rush. Prices may still be reasonable.

I am not sure when the new septic gets put in yet but it should be this week since time is ticking away and he said it would take a week. It is going to be really busy around here for a few weeks, and it is coming together very fast now.

I think tomorrow I am also going to do a little meal prep to start stocking up the trailer (it’s less I need to pack too). I am going to make two different mac & cheese dishes. I am going to add some stir-fry veggies, turkey breakfast sausage, and some madras lentils (it’slike chili). That will be a very filling meal with lots of veggies. I will add broccoli to the other box and I’ll use that as a side for grilled chicken I have in the freezer. I should get quite a few portions out of both so there won’t be much cooking necessary the next few weeks if I do it right.

That’s all the excitement for now.

Shawn
