This morning it was 60°F colder than yesterday morning. And, to celebrate this momentous occasion, the one they call “Mother Nature” decided to also decorate for the festivities with a little dusting of snow.
Yep…from nearly 80°F on Monday to 13°F this morning. Records broken, damn snow, slickness and just too damn cold. Yesterday afternoon the winds picked up and it dropped about 10° an hour several hours into the evening. It was a very fast change.
I’m glad that I got out with the dogs and got out for a hike during the nice days last week. The forest is not very attractive right now but it’s not being in the house and exercise is always good. It’s going to warm back up into the 70s for a couple of days then back to a more seasonal 50s. I’ll take that.
After tonight’s lows in the 20s it’s back above freezing for as far out as the Weather app goes!

I started to look at nearby State Parks and campgrounds and when reservations open up. It’s good basic information to know if you’re going out on a trip. Living in Colorado for many years and being in Washington I have been used to the shorter camping seasons in the mountains.
Usually the season would be Memorial Day to Labor Day for the campgrounds to be open, but dispersed camping is always an option in most National Forests and BLM land. Just be sure to check local stay limits and regulations as each forest can be different.
Here in the Midwest and other warmer climates some campgrounds are open most of or even all of the year. Reservations are good to check on especially for camping closer to a populated area like a major city. Another consideration may be if local schools are open or closed. City Park campgrounds are a good option too if open. Of course there’s truck stops, which I think are probably safer than a Walmart lot these days.
I guess with only three months left until that unofficial first day of summer it’s a good time to check out your gear for needs, repairs, maintenance or replacement.
I have gotten a few other things done in the trailer the last couple of days. Now that I’m not running in and out so much I gave the floor a good sweeping. I dusted a few days ago after I put the air purifier in the trailer. I think I might leave it in there and use it. It’ll help with dog hair if the dogs come in, and since the furnace is not filtered air it will help with keeping the air clean.
Speaking of filters, I still have to pull the air conditioner filters out to clean them. I have to get the manual back out as I was having issues getting the filters out. I don’t want to break anything so I’m trying to be careful.
I have found a few new things that I have to put into my trailer routine for this new trailer. Things like the air conditioning filters, solar, and black tank flush nozzle I did not have in the Scotty. I created my checklists for leaving and arriving for reference if needed.
I think a dry erase board on the wall in a camper is a good idea for two or more people, but since it’s only me I just add things in my phone. The dogs don’t have opposable thumbs so they can’t write.
So it’s a good time to start thinking of getting your gear ready!
