A Good Sign; Travel Stop

The last few weeks I have seen several large flocks of birds are beginning to migrate back north. That is a positive sign that a change in the weather is on the way! The animals seem to know so fingers crossed it’ll be milder the next few weeks. The sixty-degree temperatures and sunshine are sure welcomed!

A while back I went to check out Buc-ee’s, the giant convenience store with about 100 gas pumps and a ginormous travel shopping paradise.

Walking towards the store, there was a sign in the sidewalk that was about applying for jobs and had the pay listed. Holy cow…they are paying some serious cash with some positions six figures. How they are to work for I have no idea (or care), but the employees seemed to be happy and were friendly & helpful. The people in the barbecue area were yelling and having fun as they were chopping brisket, mixing meat with sauce and making sandwiches.

I got a barbecue sliced brisket sandwich. Nice and smoky with just a little sweetness on a decent soft roll (I think it was a Kaiser bun and it was good). It was actually a pretty good sandwich, but I am a Kansas City barbecue person (it’s STILL, and always WILL BE, the best).

Most everything in there is store branded but they do carry recognizable brands. There is a lot of fresh food. I mean a LOT. A huge counter that offers up many different types of jerky. There’s a bakery counter selling kolaches. There’s deli items, barbecue sandwiches. There are also a ton of souvenirs but I didn’t go into that area.

And how was it?

Totally overblown and really nothing more than a gimmick.

Overall, it’s not my kind of place but I had to check it out. I don’t eat out much and usually have my healthy road trip snacks loaded up from the grocery store. I could see how it could be popular for many, especially families, but it’s just another convenience store to me.

Besides, Little America in the Western US is the same concept but they have been around MANY years and have their own hotels and other destination-style amenities.

Like The World’s Largest Ball of Twine. Been there…done that…mark it off the list. I won’t make a point of going there.

That’s it for now. Thanks for checking out my latest post.
