It’s That Time of Year!; Winter Solstice; A Small Annual Wrap-up

Yep, today it’s Festivus for the rest of us. And there are certainly abundant grievances to air this year; just won’t be happening in these pages.

Happy Festivus to all!

And, a belated Happy Winter Solstice! We are finally turning the corner and headed back towards longer daylight hours. Fifteen minutes of more daylight each week and it can’t happen fast enough.

I searched around online a few weeks ago to see if there were any Winter Solstice events; it’s something new I have wanted to experience and I have not been to one yet. Needless to say in the Midwest there are not many celebrations of the pagan variety. Should have done that while living elsewhere, I guess.

I guess my big news this year was losing my family “heirloom” Scotty Hilander trailer to hail damage. I inherited it from my mom when she was sick in the hospital. I used that trailer a lot, especially during a few transitional points in my life; moving to WA state with it via Banff NP and other parks in Canada, a getaway trip after my dad died, and many other trips. So many memories I made with that little trailer.

My old 2098 Scotty Hilander in Montana – R. I. P.

When I moved I had not used a travel trailer before, but I had rented an ATV in Alaska, but the trailer was now mine so I made the most of it. It opened up a whole new world of possibilities for traveling for me.

But, my new Forest River GeoPro G19BH is an awesome trailer and has been on several trips in the four months I have had it. It’s certainly roomier and more comfortable with (among other things) solar, a better air conditioning system, a bathtub in a conventional bathroom, and an oven. I have made a few memories with it but am looking towards many big adventures in it the next several years.

Other than what I have posted in this blog the last 12 months it’s been a very uneventful year with little else of note worth mentioning.

That’s all for this post. Until next time…

Shawn
