Yep, it’s Labor Day weekend – the time of year where people think the outdoors is over for the year. However, even if I were able to go someplace, it sure would not be this weekend.
The highway in front of my house has been like a boat & RV show. yesterday and today. Everyone has been headed out, and many have driven past my house to get to one of the several lakes in the area. There is a little rain in the forecast tonight, but Sunday into Monday looks like a possible washout so I imagine the highway will be busy going the other way tomorrow.
I really miss the availability of public lands for recreation like I had in Colorado and Washington. “Going to the lake” is just not a thing for me; I do not fish, and much like a beach I cannot just sit there. I want to be out hiking and exploring in nature, so around here that is pretty much limited to finding a park that has some trails and making a day of it or camping in the campgrounds like Dave & I have done in the Missouri State Parks.
But, we are getting into September and this is good travel season with fewer crowds and still decent weather. In the mountains, this weekend would be the end of the campgrounds being open and that is kind of frustrating since the weather is usually good for a few more weeks.
That means camping options are limited, but not entirely gone. We camped in the Missouri State Parks in winter and it was still fun. Just bundle up to be outside and all is good. Only challenge can be the weather – more specifically the road conditions. My trailer has dual propane tanks so it helps with staying warm and cooking on the stove longer. I will start taking my induction burner with me, and I got a new cook set I can use with it so that will stretch the fuel supply using electricity or solar with the inverter.
Until I CAN get out at least the trailer is ready to go.
It’s hard to believe it is already September. This year has just flown by quicker than some in recent memory. They go faster and faster it seems. That is why you have to grab all the life you can and do everything you want to do in your life.

I was hoping to get out for some hiking soon, but last night my foot discovered a piece of broken glass sticking up between the wood floor boards in the kitchen. I could tell immediately by the paint that it was not just a cut; I could feel something was in there, and by the looks of it I could tell it was glass.
I was going to just let it work its way out but it hurt like hell to even walk a short distance. After thinking about it I ended up going to urgent care this morning to get their help. They would not remove it since it’s basically a surgery so I would have to go to an ER.
The doctor was really nice and even though they couldn’t cut it out she did try to see if she could see it to pull it out but no luck trying that. They did an x-ray and confirmed it is glass in my foot. So, the plan for now is to soak it to get it to come out, ice it for pain, keep it elevated, take antibiotics to prevent infection and stay off of it as much as possible so maybe it will come out and I can grab it.
If that doesn’t happen in a few days, then I have to go in and get it removed. I am really not looking forward to that, but at least it isn’t shoulder surgery again. I am looking forward to the pain going away; it is pretty uncomfortable.

Yesterday I got motivated and moved some furniture around. My back has been hurting and I thought I would go back to my full-size mattress which is a memory foam one. I originally bought it for my Scotty trailer, and when it got totaled I took it out to use in the house. I had it in the spare bedroom and I slept on a queen bed.
So I swapped them and did some cleaning while things were moved around. I woke up this morning without a backache – first time in several days.
At some point that mattress will go in my GeoPro trailer since RV mattresses really suck. They are cheaply made and have no support. They d make them light to help with the weight of the trailer, but also since my bed is in the front it helps take some weight off of the trailer tongue. My memory foam mattress will add a few pounds on the hitch, but since I use an equalizer anti-sway hitch that will help balance it for towing.
That is it for now. Thanks for taking a look at my blog.
