Plumb Crazy; Splurge Day!; Weather; Airline Miles

Yesterday’s trip to the basement ended up being today’s project. I was looking at the plumbing downstairs in the basement and discovered a bathroom sink drain pipe that was in very bad shape. I thought originally it only had a few little holes but it was actually split horizontally about 18”.

I also had to replace the drain in the sink so I ended up replacing all but a short section of copper and I’ll get that swapped out when I find what parts I need.

I decided to fix it myself. The parts were $52, and a plumber was probably going to be $500. Yeah, I can go along with saving 90%.

It was a busy day but it’s now done and I can move on to the next thing. Between the sink and the pipe I got a lot accomplished today.

When I went to town to get the parts to complete the aforementioned project I decided it was Thai food for lunch.

The House Special

It was delicious but I neglected to tell them the spice level and it was pretty fiery. This might have something to do with it:

Green peppercorns. Whew. Water, please!

I had to stop eating because of the heat. But I certainly didn’t leave the rest. It went home with me for a snack.

And it was still hot.

The snow is starting to melt off and it’s getting muddy. The basement is still dry and the pump is keeping it that way. it’s looking like we’re getting back to normal temperatures and I think we are probably done with the really cold weather. At least I hope so. I’ve got some camping to do.

I still have a pile of airline miles with Alaska Airlines that I need to use. They don’t expire but I’d like to just get them used up and off the books. I can use them on other airlines so I’m back at looking at my options for the best way to use them.

Domestic fares have been decent lately so those would be better paying for. Europe is holding higher prices steadily but there have been some good deals starting to come along. Still, I do have those miles to use and a free flight is a free flight and it makes traveling much cheaper.

That’s all for this post.
