January 3rd, 2026 – Yay!; House Price; Travel Shows; Travel and Blogs/Vlogs

Well, it looks like I got the issue with the carbon monoxide figured out. Furnace ran all day for a few days; I was in it for many hours over the last few days with the heat running and there were no alarms.

I am glad that is solved. I was not really too worried yet outside of the danger aspect of it – that was the really concerning part and it would have a bad impact on my future travel plans. I was optimistic that it was something that was not too bad. Glad I was right!

🏡 🤞🏼

A few days ago we lowered the price on the house. When I signed the paper that day to do that, I had a weird feeling come over me… like this was gonna happen very soon and everything would finally be done. Today I got a showing request! I had only two hours to touch up the cleaning. I am glad I have been cleaning it nearly every day – made today’s cleaning go easier.

I had a feeling after the new year things would pick up again. Hopefully I am right and it sells fast.

✈️🏕️

I came across the three-part travel special on PBS that Rick Steves did some years back. It is a very good watch and is basically a video version of his “Europe Through the Back Door” book, which is a priceless asset for preparing for your first trip. It is specifically about Europe, but many of the tips in the series will be good advice anywhere you go – some maybe even domestically. I recommend watching this series plus getting the book (updated annually) for more detail and things not covered.

It brought back some good memories and the first part is actually places we went on the first time over – Amsterdam and Köln, Germany – and have been back to. It brought back some good memories and is kinda cool to see some places you have been to on some travel shows. Not only are there the memories and familiarities, but you may see something you might want to see the next time if you return.

I saw a few of his other shows and it got me wanting to travel even more than I normally do. I am getting restless waiting to sell this place but it has not been on the market long so I need to just calm the hell down. It will happen soon and I can move on with life – I just have to be patient.

It is really hard because I never wanted to be here in the first place and have wanted out of here from the day I first left Washington. One of the worst things in life is being stuck someplace you do not want to be, whether it is a city, state, job, country…whatever the situation.

It smothers everything else you try and want to do the entire time you are stuck there. You try to make the best of it that you can, but for me it just cannot be better unless I am where I WANT to be.

I was thinking about traveling while blogging, and all of the things similar blogs and vlogs do and it made me wonder something.

I have literally been “all over this land” as they say. I have 47 of 50 States, and most of it on highways. There were many places I liked…then there were the rest. Now, I am not calling out any particular place as I did not like it as I don’t want to be on anyone’s shitlist. Suffice it to say I was in many places that were okay but not worth a trip back there unless it was on the way elsewhere. Some areas I might find a detour to avoid parts.

It really does make me wonder about other bloggers or vloggers and if they only go places they want to go or if they just go places for likes even though they do not enjoy the time spent someplace.

Myself? I go back to 2 paragraphs above; I am not making any special trip if I do not want to go there. I am one who would rather discover more new stuff than see things again that were good for only one time. I don’t do things for approval or likes, but I do appreciate the kindness. I guess you could say that these are MY travels, you are certainly welcomed to join me, and I am glad you did!

Thanks for taking a few minutes to read my blog.

Later.

Shawn
