Today I pretty much finished up going through the last of the things in the main area of the house. I am really glad this part is nearly completed…but the basement awaits.
I had already sorted through most of my parent’s things in some closets and boxes, but there was still a little bit left. A few things were admittedly tough to go through and at times it was certainly difficult. But, it is now all done.
I got that stuff finished up and headed downstairs to the basement after taking a break. As I was boxing up old cans of paint I looked around more closely. I realized that I really had already done most of it over the last few months and most of the stuff left is staged to go somewhere. All of the piles of stuff just need to be taken to the dump or donated. After that there will not be much left and most of that is being packed up to keep. There’s a few old cabinets that need to be dumped as well.
I get in some repairs on the sheetrock first thing and then move on to the other stuff while the spackling compound dries. The wallpaper steaming/stripping won’t take long, and there are some nice days coming up again so I can have the windows open while I paint. I think if I keep busting my ass it might be all done within two weeks’ time, maybe even sooner.

I am feeling really amped up about the progress I have made. Really seeing that a lot of the stuff is already sorted and ready to go was a huge boost. It makes me feel like I am making progress and I am about done going through all the stuff. The closer I am to getting the things done in the house I am excited that I can reward myself with a camping trip. I know the dogs are as ready as I am to get away!
It is getting into the 40s at night, with a few upper 30s sprinkled in. This is the time of year I have to keep an eye on the weather for freezing temps since I have not winterized the trailer yet. I do have tank heaters so I can turn those on to keep things warm underneath. I usually do this in the “shoulder” season and run the furnace on low to keep the pipes warm from the top side. I don’t let the cold weather stop me but I am cautious about causing damage to my trailer. I really don’t want to winterize it before I need to, especially if I want to go back out.

After basically being a nomad since 2012 I really do not have a lot of furniture so the house is fairly empty. It may be strange to many people, but it is how I have lived since that time and it works for me. Right now I think I may have TOO much stuff with the few extra things I have acquired the last couple of years of being stationary. Of course, some are keepsakes from the house. I have sold a few things like my generator and a large propane cylinder I used with my old trailer for heat in the winter.
Honestly it has been strange, and even a bit confining, to not move around as much as I did and live the life I had in Washington. It is also admittedly a bit of a letdown. However, I had to do what I had to do the last few years, though. It is why I need a camping trip.

I meant to post this last night but went to bed before I got it done. See you next time.
