Even though it was mid-80s today, I hosed the coils off and put the cover on the air conditioning unit outside. I think we are finally in the last throes of the warm weather for the year; the air just has “that feeling” of change so it is time to put it away for the year..
It has been pretty breezy today so even though it is warm it isn’t unbearable. I figured I could get through today without the A/Cthen the temperatures will cool down into the pleasant 70s during the day and 50s at night.

I finally got a shoe on three weeks after foot surgery. What a long & drawn out pain in the ass this has been. I have been limping around since the last day of August; it is not completely healed but it is much better and I have slowly been able to get some things done around here that I badly needed to get done.

I hated to spend the money, but it was getting to the point where I had to get new tires on my truck. They were not completely baloney skins, but close enough I didn’t want to get caught in the rain. Going into winter is the best time to get new rubber on all four corners so I am ready for any weather. I have been putting off any new road trips until I got them (and I could also walk more when exploring) so I hope to be getting back out soon for at least some local adventures. I have been kicking around a few ideas for some places to go.

I actually came across a few new local places that have caught my interest on that Roadside America app that I had not known about before.
There are many free or inexpensive things to see pretty much anywhere you are so chances are good you can find something close to you to check out. It might just be a small local museum, a statue, or even just a simple plaque denoting some historical event happening in that particular spot. Or, there may be no markers at all except for the records of some interesting thing in a spot like an empty lot or an old building.
You know me, though…I will see it all!

I also needed good tires since I hope to finally be out camping in the near future. Meghan will be down soon to get the rest of her animals and stuff so I will be freed up to get out. It has been a long summer not getting out but I don’t get out much in summers with the crowds anyhoo.
I am anxious to finally get the trailer out and have some fun while I can. With the weather changing I will need to think about winterizing it soon so I will wring out every last bit of fun that I can but I still have house stuff to take care of. I can still dry camp after that is done but I cannot use the water or bathroom in the trailer.
I really do not like public bathrooms or showers like the ones at campgrounds – especially crowded private campgrounds. It is why I like having my trailer – my own bathroom, shower, water and bed. I can avoid getting sick by not being in a warm, steamy public shower environment and catching anything.
When I go places I am admittedly a germophobe to some extent, but I am not a hypochondriac – I am cautious and smart about it. I don’t touch door handles with my bare hands and use hand sanitizer when I can. It really pays off. I have to be very cautious because of things like the ‘rona; with my cardiac issues I cannot catch that stuff or it could be real problematic for me. I have not had it yet and especially since my heart attack & bypass I do my best to avoid situations where my health (and life) could be in jeopardy; I can put on shower slippers to keep fungus off my toes, but slippers won’t stop the ‘rona.
Even before my heart attack and the pandemic I used my own trailer facilities. Not only is it safer health-wise, but I can use it any time I want. I also know my clothes will stay dry, it is clean, and it is private. I take sanitizing wipes with me to wipe down surfaces in a hotel room to make sure everything I touch is clean. I also follow the recommendations of putting my luggage in the tub and folding down the comforter. Many years ago I ended up with bedbugs from a hotel in Oklahoma and it was not fun. It was a real hassle to get rid of those li’l bastards on top of the itching. It only happened once, which is surprising with all of the hotels I have stayed in over the years.
Anyhoo, it is exciting to think that soon I will be back out camping!
That is it for now. See you again soon!
Shawn
