May 25th, 2025 – Today’s Prompt

What does “having it all” mean to you? Is it attainable?

To me, it is not something to overthink.

I believe it simply means you are happy with your life. It’s not about how many cars you have, how big your house is, how much money you make. To me, that doesn’t make you happy…it just makes you an asshole.

Having it all is a state of mind. Are you healthy? Got food on the table and a roof over your head? Have you gotten to do many of the things you wanted to do? Most importantly, are you comfortable in how/where your life is?

I think another thing is to quit constantly thinking you have to outdo others and impress everyone else. You really should not be too concerned about what others think; live your life to impress YOU. With all the cool stuff I have gotten to do in my life, I did those for ME and not to impress or brag about (though I am proud of many of the things I have accomplished).

Our society has a lot of pressure to compete and you have to put that aside. I think we need to get away from the American thinking that has been drilled into us here from an early age that we get a job, buy a house, car, and continue to work hard to make more money to keep buying more stuff we don’t need so we need a bigger house. It’s just like the classic George Carlin bit “A Place for My Stuff”. The more you make the more you spend.

At least you FEEL you need to spend.

Yes, it IS attainable. As the saying goes “money can’t buy happiness” (or “love” in the words of the great Lennon/McCartney). You could be extremely rich but still be a miserable, rotten P.O.S. bastard.

Why not dial back those impulses to be like others? Why do people continue that pressure on themselves to “fit in” and compete? Don’t live your life for others and you will be much happier.

And have it all.
